CT features of small cell lung cancer

CT features of small cell lung cancer

The CT features of small cell lung cancer usually include small tumor size, rapid spread, central lung cancer manifestations, and accompanied by lymphadenopathy or pleural effusion, etc. Based on these features, patients should undergo further examinations as soon as possible to confirm the diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan.

1 Tumor morphology and distribution characteristics

Small cell lung cancer usually appears as central lung cancer on CT images, mainly occurring in the bronchi and their vicinity. The lesions often present as high-density mass images with clear or slightly blurred boundaries. Due to the rapid proliferation of small cell lung cancer, patients may find tumor infiltration into surrounding tissues in the images.

2. Symptoms of swollen lymph nodes

Small cell lung cancer is often accompanied by enlarged mediastinal or hilar lymph nodes, which appear as abnormally dense mass shadows in the mediastinum region in CT images, and the range varies depending on the patient's condition. Lymph node enlargement indicates that the tumor may have entered the local lymphatic circulation and is an important indicator for judging the progression of the disease.

3 Abnormal changes in the chest cavity

Some patients with small cell lung cancer may have pleural effusion, which can be seen on one or both sides of the chest cavity with increased density and fluid signs during CT examination. The presence of pleural effusion is often associated with more advanced tumor manifestations, which may have invaded the pleura or other surrounding tissues.

In order to further confirm the diagnosis of small cell lung cancer, it is recommended that patients undergo biopsy after CT examination to confirm the diagnosis, clarify the stage, and start treatment according to the stage as soon as possible. General treatment includes chemotherapy such as etoposide + platinum drugs, radiotherapy, targeted immunotherapy, etc., which can be determined according to the specific situation of the patient. Combining symptomatic supportive treatment is also crucial.

If you find any suspicious symptoms, please consult a professional doctor immediately for diagnosis and treatment. Early intervention can significantly improve the patient's prognosis. Small cell lung cancer progresses quickly, so timely medical treatment is the key.
