What can’t you eat after getting a vaccination?

There are many things to pay attention to when getting vaccinations. For the human body, vaccinations are actually a virus, which is an inactivated virus. After this virus enters the human body, it will prompt the human body to produce antibodies against the virus, thereby preventing the occurrence of this viral infection in the future. In short, vaccinations are the most important measure to prevent viral infections. So, are there any dietary taboos after people get vaccinated?

What can’t you eat after getting a vaccination?

1. What can’t babies eat after vaccination?

In terms of diet, some inappropriate practices are popular among the people, such as advocating feeding babies some "irritating foods" such as small fish, shrimps or coriander, in the hope that the vaccines will "work" out and achieve therapeutic effects. Other parents advocate "dietary restrictions", saying their children cannot eat this or that, for fear that it will interfere with the effectiveness of the vaccination.

In fact, vaccinations are generally made of inactivated vaccines or live vaccines. Their immune effects are achieved by stimulating the body with their antigenic effects to produce antibodies that can kill or inhibit bacteria or viruses. As long as the antigens reach a certain number, the body will produce sufficient disease resistance and effectively prevent infectious diseases. Therefore, even eating "irritating foods" will not have any effect. As for "dietary restrictions" (such as not eating eggs, fish, fruits, etc.), it makes no sense, because getting a vaccination is different from getting sick. The anti-disease effect obtained after the vaccination is mainly reflected in the quality of antibodies, and antibodies are actually a special type of protein. If you can eat more protein-rich foods such as eggs and fish, the raw materials for producing antibodies in the body will increase, which can enhance immunity. If you only listen to rumors, it will cause a lack of raw materials for producing antibodies in your baby's body, which will weaken the effectiveness of the vaccination.

2. Things to note after your baby gets vaccinated

2.1. After vaccination, you should stay at the vaccination site for 15 to 30 minutes. If there is no reaction, you can go home to avoid abnormal reactions that may not be treated in time.

2.2. It is not advisable to bathe the baby within 24 hours, especially at the vaccination site, to avoid local infection.

2.3. Keep the local skin of the vaccination area clean and hygienic, and change and wash underwear frequently. Babies are prohibited from scratching the vaccination site with their hands to avoid local infection or aggravated reactions. In case the skin is scratched by the baby, topical medications can be used locally, such as chloramphenicol eye ointment and Band-Aids; if there is constant purulent secretion flowing out of the local area, you should go to the surgical outpatient clinic in time.

3. What preparations should be made before infant vaccination?

3.1. Know what vaccines your baby should receive at the corresponding age and what infectious diseases each vaccine can prevent.

3.2. Understand and know your baby’s health condition. When the health care doctor asks about the baby’s medical history, you should tell the health care doctor the actual condition of your baby truthfully to avoid accidents.

3.3. Take good care of your baby within 1 week to prevent him/her from any illness or discomfort and to ensure that he/she receives the necessary vaccines on time.
