Is there a link between laryngitis and laryngeal cancer?

There is no obvious relationship between laryngitis and laryngeal cancer. Both occur in the throat, but the former is an inflammatory disease that can be cured quickly with active treatment and rarely develops cancer. Considering that the symptoms between the two are very similar, they can be distinguished by symptom presentation, cause, and treatment.

1. Symptoms

Laryngitis is a chronic inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa, submucosal and lymphatic tissues. Once the symptoms become obvious, it is easy to have discomfort, foreign body sensation and itching in the pharynx; if the throat is affected downwards, it will develop into laryngitis and cause hoarseness. There are no obvious symptoms in the early stages of laryngeal cancer, but as the disease progresses, hoarseness, difficulty breathing, coughing and difficulty swallowing are likely to occur.

2. Causes

The cause of laryngitis is related to chronic inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, environmental factors, bad living habits, etc. Laryngeal cancer is mainly caused by viral infection, drinking and smoking.

3. Treatment methods

Laryngitis requires short-term treatment, and general treatment and drug treatment are selected according to the throat damage, and the cause is actively eliminated. Laryngeal cancer requires long-term treatment, generally with surgery as the main treatment, and surgical methods such as laryngoscope resection and total laryngectomy are selected based on the condition.

Pharyngitis has little to do with laryngeal cancer, but it can harm the health of the throat. Once hoarseness occurs, a good diagnosis and targeted treatment are needed.
