1. Treatment of patients with pneumonia

Mainly anti-infection treatment:

(1) For community-acquired pneumonia without underlying diseases, penicillins, macrolides, first-generation cephalosporins, and quinolones are commonly used.

(2) For community-acquired pneumonia with underlying diseases or requiring hospitalization, second- and third-generation cephalosporins, β-lactams, and quinolones are commonly used, and can also be combined with broad-spectrum macrolides or aminoglycosides.

(3) For severe pneumonia, the first choice should be a broad-spectrum, powerful antibacterial drug, which should be used in sufficient doses and in combination.

(4) Second- and third-generation cephalosporins, β-lactams, β-lactamase inhibitors, quinolones, or carbene penicillins are commonly used to treat hospital-acquired pneumonia.

2. Nursing of patients with pneumonia

1. Health education

Improve nutrition and enhance physical fitness. Eat a high-protein, high-vitamin diet, engage in outdoor activities, and do physical exercise, especially strengthening respiratory function exercises to improve respiratory function. People who are susceptible to respiratory infections should keep warm and avoid catching cold when going out in cold seasons or when the climate changes suddenly.

2. Environmental Adjustment

Maintain a comfortable ward environment, good air circulation, and appropriate temperature and relative humidity; keep the patient as quiet as possible to reduce oxygen consumption, use antibiotics as prescribed by the doctor, and observe the treatment effect.

3. Keep the airway open

Closely monitor vital signs and the degree of respiratory distress to help understand the progression of the disease, help patients assume a suitable body position, and raise the head of the bed by 30° to 60° to facilitate respiratory movements and the discharge of upper respiratory tract secretions; encourage patients to lie on the affected side to relieve pain, reduce coughing, and help clear respiratory secretions; instruct patients to cough effectively, assist in changing body positions before expectoration, and pat the back gently (you can put your five fingers together, put your palms slightly inward, and pat the back from bottom to top and from outside to inside), while patting and encouraging them to cough.

4. Oxygen therapy

Oxygen therapy helps improve hypoxemia. Those with shortness of breath and cyanosis should be given oxygen therapy, and the treatment effect should be evaluated and recorded.

5. Fever care

If you have a fever, take appropriate cooling measures. Fever can accelerate the body's metabolism, increase oxygen consumption, and aggravate the body's hypoxia. Therefore, body temperature should be monitored and vigilance should be maintained for the occurrence of febrile convulsions.
