How long can a pancreatic cancer patient live without surgery

How long a pancreatic cancer patient can live without surgery cannot be generalized. The survival time is related to the pathological type, treatment method, etc. The overall survival time of pancreatic cancer can be roughly estimated by the 5-year survival rate. If active treatment is not carried out, the survival time may be less than 5 years. For early pancreatic cancer patients, after active treatment, the survival time will be longer, possibly more than 5 years.

For patients with early pancreatic cancer, whose tumor diameter is less than or equal to 2 cm, confined to the pancreas, without extrapancreatic infiltration and lymph node metastasis, the surgical resection rate is over 90%, and the 5-year survival rate can reach 70%. However, if surgical treatment is not performed early and the best treatment opportunity is delayed, the survival time will also be shortened, which may be 1 to 5 years, or even shorter. For patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, surgical treatment is generally not possible, which often means that the lesion is relatively large and has invaded surrounding tissues and metastasized. In this case, the survival time is relatively short, which may be less than 1 year.

Every pancreatic cancer patient is different and their survival time will vary.
