What does a negative cervical cancer screening test mean

A negative result in cervical cancer screening indicates that the result is normal, that is, no lesions have occurred. Cervical cancer screening is mainly targeted at women over 21 years old who have sexual activity, and includes two types of examinations:

1. Cervical liquid-based cytology test: TCT test is mainly used to screen whether the cervix has precancerous lesions or the possibility of cancer. A negative result means that the cervical cells are normal and no lesions have occurred.

2. Cervical HPV test: A negative result means that the cervix is not infected with the HPV virus. Because high-risk HPV infection is the main cause of cervical cancer, it is an important examination item for cervical cancer screening.

The combined screening of the above two tests has an accuracy rate of more than 90%. If both results are negative and the patient has no obvious clinical manifestations, another test can be performed in 3 to 5 years. Less than 10% of patients may have negative screening results, but have clinical symptoms, such as contact bleeding and obvious tumors on the surface of the cervix. In this case, cervical cancer cannot be completely ruled out and further colposcopy is required. If necessary, biopsy tissue should be taken for pathological examination to confirm the diagnosis as soon as possible to avoid omission.
