Does something growing on the pancreas necessarily mean pancreatic cancer?

Does something growing on the pancreas necessarily mean pancreatic cancer?

Something growing on the pancreas is not necessarily pancreatic cancer. It may also be pancreatitis with a mass in the head of the pancreas, a pancreatic cystic tumor, a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor, a pancreatic solid pseudopapillary tumor, etc. We cannot simply judge whether it is pancreatic cancer based on something growing on the pancreas. We need to perform surgery to remove the lesion tissue and then perform a pathological biopsy to determine the nature of the lesion. The specific analysis is as follows:

1. Pancreatic cancer: Something growing on the pancreas may also be pancreatic cancer. Most pancreatic cancers originate from the duct system of the exocrine pancreas. Pancreatic cancer is highly malignant, with an insidious onset and rapid progression. A lump may suddenly be found on the pancreas. Some patients may experience symptoms such as anorexia, weight loss, fatigue, abdominal pain, and yellow skin. Clinical diagnosis can be made through pancreatic enhanced CT and tumor marker carbohydrate antigen CA199. Pathological examination is required for confirmation.

2. Not pancreatic cancer: This condition may also be pancreatic head mass-type pancreatitis, pancreatic cystic tumor, pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor, solid pseudopapillary tumor, etc., while the above diseases are not pancreatic cancer. However, space-occupying phenomena may be found on the pancreas during pancreatic B-ultrasound, CT and other examinations. After active treatment, the prognosis is good.
