Osmanthus can be made into a variety of delicious foods. Many people will think of growing osmanthus. So, can osmanthus be grown indoors?

Is osmanthus suitable for growing indoors?

1. Is it possible?

The answer is yes, and it is suitable in many aspects. In fact, it is very common to place osmanthus in homes. There are also many bonsai related to it.

2. Reasons for suitability

(1) First of all, osmanthus is not poisonous and will not cause any harm. It can be safely kept indoors.

(2) The second is its ornamental value. Sweet osmanthus is one of China's traditional famous flowers and is still very famous today. In mid-autumn, after the flowers bloom, clusters of osmanthus flowers appear spectacular and very ornamental. In addition, it can also emit a fragrance, a mellow aroma that makes people feel refreshed.

(3) The third is its meaning. Osmanthus flowers bloom in autumn, which is the harvest season. Therefore, its meaning includes "harvest". There are many poems describing it, and it contains rich cultural heritage. In addition, there are many legends about it, such as "Wu Gang Cutting the Cassia Tree" and so on. It is quite interesting to keep it indoors.

3. Notes

(1) Some people may be allergic to osmanthus pollen, so they need to be careful when growing it indoors. Keep a certain distance from the plant after it blooms. Some friends may not be able to tolerate the strong aroma, so they should be cautious when deciding whether to raise it.

(2) If you are raising fish indoors, the most important thing to pay attention to is light. It needs to be placed in a place with good light, otherwise it will grow weakly and have few flowers.

Osmanthus has fragrant flowers and green leaves, so it is more suitable for growing at home. "Experts say that although many citizens now live in buildings, as long as a suitable microclimate is created for the normal growth and development of osmanthus, osmanthus can also bloom in residents' homes.

It is reported that the temperature required for normal dormancy of osmanthus is between 0℃ and 5℃. But now many urban buildings have central heating, and the room temperature is mostly above 15℃. Under such temperature conditions, osmanthus will break its normal dormancy period and sprout branches and leaves prematurely. Not only will it fail to accumulate sufficient nutrients through normal dormancy, it will also consume a large amount of nutrients in the body prematurely, resulting in a false luxuriance and prosperity. When the osmanthus flowers are taken out of the house in spring, their delicate branches and leaves cannot withstand the beating of the cold and dry wind and will soon wilt and dry up. If this happens for 2 to 3 years in a row, the whole osmanthus plant will die. However, experts say that as long as the method is correct, osmanthus is not impossible to grow.

Specifically, in winter, citizens who live on the first floor and have a courtyard can dig a hole in a sunny corner of the courtyard according to the size of the flower pot, put the flower pot in, and fill the soil to the same level as the flower pot, or bury the flower pot with soil, build a frame, and cover it with plastic film; citizens who live on the second floor and above should place osmanthus on the balcony, seal the balcony with aluminum alloy glass windows to prevent the intrusion of cold air. At the same time, use glass windows and doors to separate the balcony from the interior to prevent heating from entering. Relying on the natural temperature of the balcony, the requirements for osmanthus dormancy can be met.

In spring, as the temperature gradually rises, you should gradually open the balcony windows to allow the temperature inside the balcony to slowly adapt to the temperature outside. When the average temperature reaches above 0℃, all the balcony windows can be opened. Be careful not to open the window too hastily to avoid damaging the osmanthus.
