Foods that people with thyroid cancer should avoid

Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor originating from the thyroid follicular epithelium or parafollicular cells. Clinical manifestations include neck lumps or nodules, which may be accompanied by fever, fatigue, dyspnea, etc. Foods that thyroid cancer patients should not eat mainly include foods with high iodine content, spicy foods, greasy foods, pickled foods, moldy foods, etc. These foods will have adverse effects on the patient's health and are not conducive to recovery.

1. Foods high in iodine: such as kelp, seaweed, sea cucumber, scallops, etc. These foods are high in iodine. If thyroid cancer patients eat too much of them, they may take in too much iodine. Excessive iodine will increase the secretion of thyroid hormones, thereby stimulating the lesions of thyroid cancer and worsening the condition.

2. Spicy and irritating foods: such as peppers, onions, ginger, pepper, garlic, etc., because eating spicy and irritating foods will cause blood vessels to dilate, which is not conducive to recovery from the disease, so they should be avoided;

3. Greasy food: such as fatty meat, fried food, etc. Thyroid cancer patients need to avoid greasy food, which is difficult to digest and can easily increase the burden on the intestines, leading to indigestion and other phenomena, affecting nutrient absorption;

4. Pickled foods: such as pickles, salted fish, and bacon. Since pickled foods contain more carcinogens such as nitrite, if thyroid cancer patients eat too much, it may increase the amount of carcinogens in the body, which is not conducive to recovery;

5. Moldy food: such as moldy peanuts, corn, etc., which contain a large amount of mold. If you eat too much moldy food, you may experience poisoning symptoms such as dizziness and nausea. It may also lead to a decrease in immunity, thus affecting the recovery of thyroid cancer patients.

Since thyroid cancer patients are relatively weak and have poor gastrointestinal function, liquid or semi-liquid diets are recommended, such as millet porridge, milk, etc. After the condition gradually improves, nutritious foods such as eggs and milk can be appropriately added.
