Sebaceous cysts, commonly known as "sebaceous cysts", are mostly distributed in the skin or subcutaneous tissue of the head, trunk or genitals. They are adhered to nearby tissues and can be pushed. It is mainly caused by the obstruction of the sebaceous gland excretion duct, which causes the sebaceous gland cystic epithelium to swell with the gradually increasing contents to form a retention cyst. It is characterized by a slowly growing benign lesion. There is white bean curd-like secretion in the cyst.

1. Surgical Resection

Once diagnosed, the cyst should be completely removed surgically. Surgery is the only treatment for sebaceous cysts. During the operation, a fusiform skin incision can be designed along the skin grain direction on the skin connected to the cyst, especially when the duct opening is seen, and the cyst can be removed together with the cyst. Be particularly careful during separation as the cyst wall is very thin and should be removed as completely as possible. If the cyst wall remains, it is prone to recurrence. If there are symptoms of inflammation such as redness, swelling, heat and pain before surgery, the inflammation should be controlled first and then surgery should be arranged.

2. Concurrent infection

Oral antibiotics (such as enhanced sulfamethoxazole tablets, midecamycin, etc.) and anti-inflammatory treatments such as hot compresses should be given, and surgical resection should be performed after the inflammation subsides. Large scars can be treated with cosmetic surgery.

Sebaceous cysts protrude from the surface of the skin, and patients generally have no symptoms. The tumor is spherical, single or multiple, medium hard, elastic, higher than the skin surface, adhered to the skin, not easy to move, smooth surface, without fluctuations, the center may be light blue, sometimes with openings on the skin surface, squeezing may reveal tofu dregs or noodle mud-like contents. If complicated by infection, inflammatory reactions such as redness, swelling, heat and pain may occur.
