Can B-ultrasound CT detect colorectal cancer? These tests are required for early screening of colorectal cancer

In recent years, due to the improvement of the quality of life, many people have made great improvements in their diet, but it is also because of this that the incidence of various diseases has only increased, among which cancer is relatively common. The incidence of various cancers is increasing, including colorectal cancer. Many people believe that regular physical examinations can prevent cancer, but some find that regular CT or B-ultrasound cannot determine early colorectal cancer, and they find that it is not until the disease enters the middle and late stages that it causes irreparable damage. In fact, if you want to screen it out in the early stages, you need to rely on the following examinations.

Why can’t CT and B-ultrasound detect colon cancer?

CT and B-ultrasound are routine examination items. They can help detect hidden diseases in the body, such as functional diseases of various organs, and can also help screen out some organ lesions, but their ability to detect colorectal cancer is relatively low. This is mainly because the organs in the abdomen of the body are divided into two categories, one is solid organs, and the other is hollow organs. The so-called solid organs refer to the liver, kidneys, pancreas, etc., while hollow organs refer to the digestive tract. CT and B-ultrasound have a relatively high screening rate for solid organ lesions, but the examination of hollow organs is not obvious.

Because intestinal cancer occurs in the early stages, the lesions are basically located in the innermost mucosal layer and submucosal layer. Some only show slight erosion and color changes, which are difficult to diagnose through imaging examinations, especially CT and B-ultrasound. Therefore, it is not advisable to use routine examinations such as CT and B-ultrasound to help screen for early intestinal cancer.

What tests can help detect early-stage colorectal cancer?

1. Stool examination

Routine physical examinations include routine stool screening, and one of the tests is a sign of early colorectal cancer, but it has certain limitations. Because there are many reasons for gastrointestinal bleeding, such as perforation, ulcerative disease, malignant tumors, etc., the positive result of stool examination is only a warning signal, and further examination is needed.

2. Anal examination

Digital rectal examination is the most convenient and quickest way to screen for colorectal cancer. As long as the doctor wears gloves and examines the intestines through the patient's anus, it can help screen out low-mid rectal lesions. It can achieve an accuracy rate of 90%, which is of great significance for colorectal cancer screening.

3. Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is the most accurate and direct method of all screening methods. An endoscope is inserted through the anus to directly observe the entire large intestine. After the lesion is found, tissue can be taken for biopsy. Colonoscopy should be performed in time if you feel abnormal symptoms in the intestine or if the stool test is positive for occult blood.

Warm reminder: If colorectal cancer can be detected early, the chances of cure are relatively high. Therefore, it is important to understand the methods of early screening and conduct timely examinations when abnormalities are found to avoid harm.
