What are the advanced symptoms of lung cancer? These are the common symptoms of advanced lung cancer

Lung cancer is a malignant tumor disease. Once it develops to the late stage, life will be lost. Lung cancer has different symptoms at different stages. Today, let's learn about the late stage symptoms of lung cancer. I hope everyone can go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time before the disease develops to the late stage.

Late stage symptoms of lung cancer 1. Hoarseness

Hoarseness is the most common symptom of patients with advanced lung cancer. The recurrent laryngeal nerve that controls the left side of the voice function goes down from the neck to the chest, bypasses the large blood vessels of the heart and goes back up to the larynx, thus controlling the left side of the voice organ. Therefore, if the tumor invades the left side of the mediastinum and compresses the recurrent laryngeal nerve, hoarseness will occur, but there will be no sore throat or other symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection.

Late stage lung cancer symptoms 2. Shortness of breath, pleural effusion

Almost all patients with advanced lung cancer that has spread regionally experience shortness of breath to varying degrees. Normal tissue fluid produced by the lungs and myocardium is drained by the lymph nodes in the middle of the chest. If these lymph nodes are blocked by tumors, the tissue fluid will accumulate in the pericardium to form pericardial effusion or in the chest cavity to form pleural effusion. Both of these situations can cause shortness of breath.

Late stage lung cancer symptoms 3. Facial and neck edema

On the right side of the mediastinum is the superior vena cava, which returns venous blood from the upper limbs and head and neck to the heart. If the tumor invades the right side of the mediastinum and compresses the superior vena cava, it will initially cause the jugular vein to swell due to poor blood return, and eventually lead to edema of the face and neck, which needs to be diagnosed and treated in a timely manner.

Lung cancer late symptoms 4: bone metastasis

About 50% of lung cancer patients will eventually develop bone metastases in multiple locations. There are generally no symptoms in the early stages of bone metastasis, and bone isotope scanning can reveal diseased bones. Symptoms of bone metastasis are related to the location and number of tumor metastases. For example, chest pain caused by rib metastasis of lung cancer is often manifested as pain localized to the chest wall with clear tenderness points.

Lung cancer advanced symptoms 5: liver metastasis

The liver is also a common metastatic site of lung cancer, with about 28-33% of lung cancers metastasizing to the liver. Liver metastasis is when cancer cells of primary lung cancer break off and invade the liver through the blood circulation and grow in the liver. Liver metastasis can be single or multiple nodular metastatic foci. The most common symptom is pain in the liver area, which is persistent and swollen, and may be accompanied by loss of appetite, indigestion and other manifestations of impaired liver function.

Lung cancer late symptoms 6: brain metastasis

Lung cancer patients may experience unexplained headaches, vomiting, visual impairment, and personality and temper changes due to intracranial hypertension or cranial nerve damage caused by lung cancer metastasis to the brain. This is common in small cell lung cancer and adenocarcinoma.

Experts say: Once you find yourself experiencing the above symptoms, it means that your lung cancer has developed to the late stage, and there is no hope of cure at this time. However, you don't have to give up on yourself. Active treatment plus effective care can still effectively relieve the symptoms.
