Things to note after eyelid surgery

Blepharoplasty is actually double eyelid surgery. For many women with single eyelids, blepharoplasty can make our eyes look bigger. Moreover, blepharoplasty does not have any risks, so many women will have it done. But everyone should also pay attention that after undergoing blepharoplasty, your eyelids will become swollen. At this time, you need to understand some precautions after double eyelid surgery.

Blepharoplasty, also known as double eyelid surgery, is one of the most common surgeries in plastic surgery. The surgical methods vary for different blepharoplasty cases. It is generally divided into two categories: incision method and buried suture method. Each category has spawned many types of techniques, totaling no less than a hundred. But no matter which technique is adopted, the basic principles and methods are the same. Even if the eyelid skin establishes a connection with the levator palpebrae superioris aponeurosis, the upper eyelid skin can be sunken to form a double eyelid groove when the eyes are opened.

For incisional blepharoplasty, swelling begins on the first day after surgery, reaches a peak on the second day, and begins to subside on the third day. The local blood circulation and lymphatic return will vary depending on individual constitution. Generally, there is a little swelling after the stitches are removed five days later, but it is not too obvious. One month will be more natural. The swelling completely subsides in 1 to 3 months. Six months to one year after treatment, the scars will completely disappear, and finally beautiful double eyelids will be formed. If you undergo buried suture blepharoplasty, the recovery time will be shorter because there is no need to remove the stitches. The swelling will go away within three days after the operation, and you can put on makeup in a week at most.

Precautions

1. Use topical antibiotic eye drops, oral or intramuscular antibiotics for 7 days.

2. Ensure the cleanliness of the surgical site. Try to avoid getting the surgical site wet within 7 days after surgery. If there are blood scabs or secretions on the wound, wipe it with sterile saline or medical alcohol.

3. To prevent bleeding, congestion or hematoma of the wound, you can use an ice bag with a soft towel and apply appropriate pressure to ice compress after the operation. After three days, change to hot towel compress, which will help reduce eye swelling. But the pressure should not be too high to avoid damaging the eyes. If persistent bleeding or severe hematoma occurs after surgery, you should go to the hospital for follow-up consultation in time.

4. Increase your protein intake, eat more fruits and fresh vegetables, and avoid spicy foods such as peppers;

5. Strictly follow the doctor's instructions on taking medication and going for follow-up visits.

6. It is generally recommended to use a higher pillow when sleeping at night after surgery. It is good for blood and lymph flow to the eyes.

7. It is recommended to do normal movements with eyes closed on the second day after surgery. It is beneficial to the curvature of the double eyelid line after surgery.

8. If you are using the buried suture method, be careful not to rub your eyes to prevent the thread knot from falling off and failing to form a double eyelid crease.
