Is bone metastasis bone cancer? No, there is a certain difference

Is bone metastasis bone cancer? We all know that the occurrence of cancer not only brings its own harm, but also metastasizes to lead to more serious consequences. Bone metastasis is caused by other tumors metastasizing to the bones. This type of tumor is different from primary bone cancer. Let's take a look at it together.

Bone metastasis is metastatic bone tumor, which refers to the sub-tumor formed by the metastasis of malignant tumors originating in other parts of the body to the bones through various pathways and continuing to grow in the bones. The primary tumor is clearly diagnosed and metastasized to the bones after treatment, which is generally easy to find. However, when the site and symptoms of the primary tumor are hidden and metastatic bone tumors are the main complaints for medical treatment, the diagnosis is often confused, and even metastatic bone tumors are diagnosed and treated as primary bone tumors. Bone is one of the three most common metastatic sites of tumors. This disease is more common in people aged 51 to 60, with a male to female ratio of 2.3:1. Bone metastases in children mainly come from neuroblastomas of the adrenal glands or sympathetic ganglia. It is common in the spine, pelvis and femur. Among bone metastases, breast cancer, lung cancer, and prostate cancer metastases to bones are the most common.

After the diagnosis of the primary tumor, the diagnosis of metastatic bone tumors is relatively easy. The diagnosis of metastatic bone tumors with bone tumors as the first symptom often relies on laboratory tests. According to the order of onset of common tumors, selective examinations can help make a correct diagnosis, and pathological examinations can help confirm the diagnosis.

1. Diagnostic points

(1) Patients diagnosed with malignant tumors should be monitored for tumor micrometastasis.

(2) Perform X-ray examination on suspicious areas and perform radionuclide, CT, and MRI examinations as appropriate.

(3) Biopsy can be performed when necessary and is an effective method for diagnosing tumors and determining their nature.

(4) Patients with no history of malignant tumors should be thoroughly examined to identify the primary lesion.

2. Diagnosis of primary osteosarcoma, lymphoma, and myeloma

Malignant tumors metastasize to or near joints and invade a single joint, which manifests as local pain, swelling, and dysfunction; there is often bloody exudate in the joint cavity. Joint cavity effusion will recur quickly after puncture and drainage, and tumor cells can be found in the joint cavity effusion. Synovial biopsy can detect the invasion of tumor cells and make a diagnosis.
