Prostate cancer is divided into four stages. Patients in different stages have different symptoms, different treatments, and different prognoses. Medical staging of prostate cancer allows patients to clearly understand their current condition, the severity of the disease, and the prognosis. So, how is prostate cancer staged? 1. Stage I prostate cancer
If the patient is still in stage I, the lesion is generally completely within the prostate tissue and is very small. The patient usually does not have any particularly obvious discomfort symptoms. Only when he goes to the hospital for examination and performs a pathological examination of the prostate specimen, he may find a tumor in the prostate. Prostate cancer at this stage is relatively well differentiated and grows very slowly. The prognosis is relatively good, and most patients will not develop to the level of clinical cancer. 3. Stage III prostate cancer
When prostate cancer has developed to stage III, the condition is already quite serious and is not limited to the prostate capsule. Cancer cells have begun to invade adjacent tissues and organs, such as the seminal vesicles and bladder. Lymph node metastasis may occur locally, but there is no distant metastasis. When prostate cancer has developed to stage III, if it is not treated, more than 60% of patients will have their condition worsen within five years, and 50% of patients will have distant metastasis within ten years. The mortality rate at this time is very high. 4. Stage IV Prostate Cancer
This is the late stage of prostate cancer. Cancer cells have already metastasized to distant sites, the most common of which is bone metastasis. The condition is very serious and even with treatment, the prognosis is not very good. |
