Generally speaking, when the human body has a fever, the body's basal metabolic rate will increase, the body's oxygen demand will also increase, the heartbeat will speed up accordingly, and the pulse will also become faster accordingly. Generally, for every 1°C increase in body temperature of a patient with fever, the pulse rate will increase by about 10 beats per minute. Newborns are the fastest, with infants breathing 100-120 times per minute, and toddlers aged 1-3 years old can increase their breathing to about 100 times per minute. Correspondingly, although the pulse rate will increase with fever, it is not necessarily commensurate with the body temperature. In some diseases, such as pneumonia in infants and young children with empyema, or otitis media, the pulse rate may reach 140-160 beats per minute, which is not commensurate with the increase in body temperature. Treatment principles 1. Treatment of the cause Actively treating the cause of fever is the fundamental solution to fever. For example: for infectious fever, choose effective drugs for treatment according to the source of infection; actively rehydrate patients with dehydration; when a drug reaction occurs, immediately stop taking the drug and conduct anti-allergic treatment, etc. 2. Cooling treatment For infectious fever, fever itself is one of the manifestations of the body's immune system clearing the source of infection. Unless the fever is high and the patient is seriously unwell or strongly requests it, there is usually no need to rush to use antipyretics and other drugs. However, the patient must be informed and his or her understanding must be obtained. Patients with high fever must be cooled down. (1) Physical cooling ① Use ice packs. Place the ice packs on the head, armpits, and groin. Wrap the ice packs in a dry towel before use. ② Alcohol wipe bath: use 35% to 50% ethanol solution for wipe bath. The patient lies on his back and wipe from the neck down along the outside of the arm to the back of the hand. Then change to a small towel and wipe from the armpit along the inside of the arm to the palm. Use the same method to wipe the opposite side; then, wipe from the groin through the legs to the feet. Then have the patient lie on his side, start from the back of the neck, and wipe the entire back from top to bottom. It should be noted that while wiping, the patient needs to be gently massaged. When wiping near large blood vessels (such as armpits, elbows, groin area, fossa, etc.), you should stay for a while to improve the therapeutic effect. During the wiping process, if the patient experiences chills, pale complexion, or abnormal pulse or breathing, the operation should be stopped immediately. (2) Drugs for cooling down fever: The following drugs can be used for patients with high fever: aspirin, 0.3-0.6 g, taken orally, once every 4 hours if necessary; antonidine injection 2 ml, injected intramuscularly; bupleurum injection 2 ml, injected intramuscularly; analgin nasal drops can also be used; if the high fever persists, the use of glucocorticoids such as dexamethasone can also be considered. 3. Rest The patient needs to rest in bed, drink plenty of fluids, and eat a light, easily digestible diet. Fever Remedies Fever Remedy 1: Hot Ginger Sugar Water Brown sugar water boiled with ginger can help dispel the cold, so mothers may wish to try it when they have a fever. Fever Remedy 2: Hot Ginger Coke Coke is a common beverage for modern young people, but it is not just a beverage. Boiling it with ginger slices and drinking it can dispel cold and relieve heat. Use them to make hot tea and drink it while it's hot. It's very effective in reducing fever and dissipating heat. |
