How long does it usually take for tongue cancer to recur

With the continuous development of medical technology, the popularization of medical knowledge has become an urgent matter. In life, most people know little about common medical knowledge, and some are worried about the recurrence of tongue cancer. Later, I will lead everyone to learn how long it usually takes for tongue cancer to recur?

For tongue cancer with a course of more than 6 months, the maximum diameter of the tumor surface is >3cm, the tumor grows in an infiltrating manner, and the recurrence rate increases significantly with the increase of T stage, N stage and the degree of infiltration. Generally speaking, the longer the course of the disease, the larger the tumor, and the deeper the degree of infiltration. Especially for tumors in certain hidden parts or involving multiple anatomical areas, surgical operations are difficult and the surgical effect is poor. How long does it take for tongue cancer to recur? To prevent the recurrence of tongue cancer, auxiliary treatment with traditional Chinese medicine can reduce the recurrence, improve people's immunity, improve the quality of life, reduce the recurrence and metastasis of tongue cancer, and can directly inhibit the formation of cancer cells.

The recurrence of tongue cancer patients is concentrated in 1 to 43 months after surgery, with an average of 16 months. Regular follow-up of tongue cancer patients should be strengthened within two years after surgery, and the primary site and neck should be closely observed.

The causes of tongue cancer recurrence after surgery may be related to the following aspects:

1. Surgical resection range

Whether tongue cancer metastasizes or recurs after surgery is significantly related to the extent of surgical resection. According to statistics, the recurrence rate after simple tongue cancer resection is 40% to 60%, and the recurrence rate after lateral lobectomy is 10% to 20%.

2. The degree of malignancy of tongue cancer

The degree of malignancy of tongue cancer also determines the recurrence rate. In other words, the higher the malignancy, the greater the possibility of postoperative recurrence or distant metastasis. In addition, recurrence and metastasis are also closely related to the correctness of the initial treatment plan. If the treatment plan is formulated and selected properly, the 10-year survival rate is generally above 90%.

3. Tumor size

The recurrence of tongue cancer is closely related to the size and infiltration of the tumor. When the tumor grows within a certain limit (diameter <1.0 cm), the infiltration of cancer cells and the generation of hidden foci are limited; if the tumor volume exceeds a certain range ≥1.0 cm, the chances of capsule infiltration, multicentric foci and lymph node metastasis increase, making it difficult to completely remove the tumor by surgery, thus increasing the recurrence rate.

4. Biological characteristics of tongue cancer

The biological characteristic of tongue cancer is that the cervical lymph nodes are prone to metastasis. The literature reports that the metastasis rate is 50% to 90%. However, no enlarged lymph nodes were touched before tongue cancer surgery. After neck dissection, the metastasis rate was 72%. The cervical lymph node metastasis rate was 64%; the postoperative recurrence rate was 44%, while the postoperative recurrence rate without metastasis was 18%. This shows that the occult cancer foci increase in patients with cervical lymph node metastasis, and the recurrence rate increases.
