What items should be checked for hepatic hamartoma

What are the examination items for hepatic hamartoma? Hepatic hamartoma is also a common type of hamartoma. This type of hamartoma is mainly related to infants and young children. Because infants and young children do not have clear expression ability, they are often discovered and treated only when the disease becomes serious. The main way to diagnose is through professional examinations. So what are the examination items for hepatic hamartoma?

Auxiliary examination/liver hamartoma

Liver function is within the normal range, with a few cases of elevated AFP, which decreases after tumor removal for unknown reasons. Alpha-fetoprotein is negative, and CA19-9 may be elevated.

X-rays, abdominal ultrasonography, CT, and MRI are helpful in diagnosis.

1. Ultrasound examination: Abdominal ultrasound shows liver anechoic cysts with clear boundaries, which can be isolated or multiple. It can be seen that the tumor is multicystic (round or oval), thick-walled, and has no calcification.

2. CT examination: CT shows a few vascular masses, capsules and solid tissues with lower density than the liver. Huge low-density areas with uneven density can be seen in the liver, and multiple cystic liquid dark areas can be seen. CT is still a fast and low-cost method, and it can well display the anatomical boundaries to determine the possibility of surgical resection.

3. Angiography: It is manifested as a mass with no or few blood vessels (small blood vessels between fibrous tissue). It is uncommon for the lesion to invade the surrounding liver parenchyma or the inferior vena cava in hepatic mesenchymal hamartoma. Due to the poor blood supply of the lesion, arterial angiography is of little help in diagnosis and surgery.

4. Radionuclide scanning: It is also helpful in the diagnosis of the disease.

5. Abdominal plain film: shows that the position of other normal intestinal gas images becomes lower, but calcification may not always be found on the image.

6. MRI: It is also an effective method. With the development of advanced MRI technologies such as gradient echo imaging and spin echo, MRI has been greatly improved.
