What causes thyroid cancer

What causes thyroid cancer? Although modern people have awareness of prevention, thyroid cancer is still common, and the incidence rate is getting higher and higher. If you suffer from thyroid cancer, it will not only cause great harm to your body, but also cause a heavy economic burden to the patient. So what causes thyroid cancer?

What causes thyroid cancer?

1. Radiation damage X-rays can cause thyroid cancer in experimental mice. Experiments have shown that it can cause changes in the metabolism of thyroid cells, deformation of the nucleus, and a significant reduction in the synthesis of thyroid hormones. It can be seen that radiation can cause abnormal division of thyroid cells, leading to cancer, and on the other hand, it can damage the thyroid gland and prevent it from producing endocrine hormones. The resulting large amount of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) secretion can also promote thyroid cell cancer.

Clinically, many facts show that the occurrence of thyroid cancer is related to the effects of radiation. It is particularly noteworthy that children who have received upper mediastinum or neck radiotherapy for thymus enlargement or lymphadenopathy in infancy are more likely to develop thyroid cancer. This is because the cells of children and adolescents proliferate vigorously, and radiation is an additional stimulus that can easily promote the formation of tumors. It is rare for adults to develop thyroid cancer after receiving neck radiotherapy.

2. Iodine and TSH Excessive or insufficient iodine intake can change the structure and function of the thyroid gland. For example, the incidence of thyroid cancer in the endemic goiter region of Switzerland is 20 times higher than that in non-endemic regions such as Berlin. On the contrary, a high-iodine diet can also easily induce thyroid cancer. Iceland and Japan are countries with the highest iodine intake, and their thyroid cancer rates are higher than those in other countries. This may be related to the fact that TSH stimulates thyroid hyperplasia.

In normal times, we need to pay attention to our own health care matters and effectively treat this disease. In order to avoid causing more impacts, we need to pay attention to avoid causing huge harm and effectively regulate the body to avoid causing more troubles. I hope that the patients will recover as soon as possible.
