Current status of thyroid cancer treatment

Suffering from thyroid cancer can cause great damage to the patient's mental state and physical health, because for us, suffering from cancer is equivalent to being sentenced to death, and naturally we lose hope and confidence in life. However, everyone should also know that many types of cancer now have hope of being cured, including thyroid cancer. So how to treat thyroid cancer? The following will introduce to you the current status of thyroid cancer treatment.

Treatment of thyroid cancer:

1. Surgical treatment: Surgical resection is the most commonly used treatment method for thyroid cancer. Different surgical methods are used for different pathological types. During the operation, recurrent laryngeal nerve damage should be avoided as much as possible, and cervical lymph node dissection should be performed.

2. Radiotherapy. When the patient's thyroid cancer has not yet progressed to undifferentiated stage, compression symptoms and distant metastasis will appear 2-3 months after onset. Surgery generally cannot completely remove the tumor, and surgery is likely to cause more blood metastasis. Treatment is mainly radiotherapy.

3. Radioactive particle implantation. Radioactive particle implantation therapy can effectively control tumor development. At the same time, radiation exposure can be mainly limited to the inside of the tumor. Therefore, the systemic reaction is mild and the impact on surrounding normal tissues is small.

4. Radiofrequency and microwave, as part of the local treatment of thyroid cancer, have the characteristics of less trauma, quick recovery, definite efficacy and few complications. They can be used for palliative treatment after tumor recurrence or failure of radiotherapy.

5. Endocrine therapy: Thyroxine can inhibit TSH secretion, thereby inhibiting the proliferation of thyroid tissue and well-differentiated cancer, and has a good therapeutic effect on papillary carcinoma and follicular carcinoma. Therefore, routine administration of thyroxine at a TSH-suppressing dose after surgery for the above-mentioned types of thyroid cancer has a certain effect on preventing cancer recurrence and metastasis, but is ineffective for undifferentiated cancer. In China, 80 to 120 mg of dried thyroid tablets are generally used daily to maintain a high level of thyroid hormone.
