How to diagnose osteosarcoma

How to diagnose osteosarcoma

Some people always feel pain on the outside of the thigh root, and the pain is intermittent. They suspect that they have osteosarcoma, but they cannot confirm it. The early symptoms of osteosarcoma are not obvious, so how to diagnose osteosarcoma? Let's take a closer look at this question.

Until now, we still have three methods for diagnosing tumors. The first is clinical examination, which is the doctor's interview and physical examination; the second is taking pictures. Now there are X-rays, CT, MRI, bone scans, etc., which can help doctors to clearly diagnose osteosarcoma; the most important method is pathological diagnosis. There are many methods for biopsy of tumor lesions, including puncture, or making a small incision to remove some tissue for pathological examination. The combination of clinical, imaging and pathological is an important method for diagnosing osteosarcoma.

Osteosarcoma can be clearly diagnosed through the following seven characteristics.

(1) It is common in adolescents aged 15 to 25 years old, and is prone to occur at the ends of the long bones of the limbs, most commonly above and below the knee joint.

(2) The main symptom is local pain, which is intermittent at first, but quickly turns into continuous severe pain, and the pain is more obvious at night.

(3) Local skin temperature is high, veins are dilated, the mass grows rapidly, there is tenderness, tremors and vascular murmurs may occur, and there may be pathological fractures and joint dysfunction.

(4) Systemic toxic reactions, loss of appetite, weight loss, and finally exhaustion, with symptoms such as extreme emaciation and systemic exhaustion.

(5) Anemia, increased white blood cell count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and increased alkaline phosphatase.

(6) Characteristic changes in X-ray films.

(7) Pathological examination can confirm the diagnosis.
