So what is old cold legs, and how to deal with it when it occurs?

What exactly is cold legs?

"Old cold legs" belongs to the category of "arthritis" in traditional Chinese medicine. The main symptoms are pain, numbness and difficulty in moving the waist and leg joints. The disease becomes more serious when it is cold. When the patient encounters winter and rainy days, the condition will worsen and the joint pain will be unbearable. No matter how thick the quilt is when sleeping, the waist and legs are always cold and cold. Even when it is hot, you dare not take off your clothes. It always feels like soaking in cold water. It is commonly known as "old cold legs". This disease can be self-checked in several ways:

1. Joint pain

At first, it is intermittent pain, such as pain when going up and down stairs or after long-term exercise. In severe cases, it hurts with every step, and even when you are still.

2 Limited joint movement

As the articular cartilage wears more and more, the flexibility of the joints decreases, and you need to move the joints several times before you can take a step when walking.

3 Joint instability

Usually, the wear of the knee cartilage occurs first on the inner cartilage, which can lead to an unstable knee joint and "O" bow legs.

Three Misunderstandings in Preventing and Treating Chronic Cold Legs

Myth 1: Cold legs are a disease of the elderly

Indeed, the possibility of suffering from old cold legs is relatively greater in the elderly, but this disease is not unrelated to young people, especially some young women who still wear short skirts in late autumn. Although they are beautiful, they are "freezing", and old cold legs will come to them on their own.

Myth 2: Once chronic cold legs are cured, they will not recur

Many patients suffer from cold legs because they work or live in a damp and cold environment. After treatment, the condition improved and the symptoms even disappeared completely. However, old cold legs is an "environmental disease" and it is easy to relapse once encountering the meteorological environment that induces the disease. Therefore, in winter, patients with chronic cold legs need to pay special attention to keeping their legs (most importantly the knee joints) warm.

Misconception 3: You should exercise wherever it hurts

The main symptom of old cold legs is mostly knee pain, so some patients focus their exercise on the knee joints, often shaking the knee joints back and forth and left and right in a half-squat position. In fact, it is unscientific to do so, because the knee joints are under the greatest pressure when half squatting, and shaking will aggravate the wear and tear and increase the pain. Patients can use medication, acupuncture, massage and other methods to treat knee pain.
