What examinations should be done for ovarian tumors

Detecting ovarian tumors through blood tests actually refers to measuring the level of sensitive markers for ovarian tumors in the blood to help determine whether the tumor exists in the patient's body. This method is also applicable to the detection of other tumors, so ovarian tumors can be diagnosed through blood tests.

With the development of immunity and cell molecular biology, more and more tumor markers are being discovered. Although there is no such sensitive and correct marker for ovarian tumors, such as alpha-fetoprotein (which is used for early diagnosis of primary liver cancer and has now become a basic item in large-scale physical examinations), which is a tumor marker with high sensitivity and specificity, some of them still play a positive role in the diagnosis of ovarian tumors.

1. The characteristics of ovarian tumor markers help to differentially diagnose the nature of ovarian tumors.

2. Early monitoring of the presence of ovarian tumors is conducive to the early diagnosis of ovarian tumors and monitoring during treatment. For example, endodermal sinus tumors, which are common in adolescent women, can be confirmed by measuring the presence of alpha-fetoprotein. During chemotherapy, the treatment effect can be judged based on the decrease or subsequent increase in the alpha-fetoprotein value.

In terms of the choice of treatment methods for ovarian tumors, epithelial cancers must be treated with complete surgery regardless of age or marital status, as fertility cannot be retained; endodermal sinus tumors that are derived from germ cells must also undergo complete surgery, but consideration can be given to retaining the uterus and contralateral ovary, so that there is still a chance of fertility after recovery.
