Dietary considerations for gastric cancer patients after surgery

In life, I believe everyone has a certain understanding of gastric cancer. Usually gastric cancer patients need to undergo surgery for treatment, and the care of patients after surgery is particularly important. So, what are the dietary precautions after gastric cancer surgery? The following is a detailed introduction for everyone.

1. Do not eat after surgery. Wait until intestinal peristalsis is restored and anal gas is discharged. After the gastric tube is removed, drink a small amount of water for five days after surgery, 4 to 5 tablespoons each time, once every 2 hours.

2. If the patient recovers normally after the operation, he or she can eat a low-fat semi-liquid diet two weeks after the operation. The protein content of the diet meets the normal requirement and the fiber content is very low.

3. The patient's diet should be based on the principle of not feeling uncomfortable. The diet should be low in residue, mild and easily digestible. Eat small meals frequently and avoid foods that are too sweet, too salty or too thick. If symptoms such as nausea and bloating occur after eating, stop eating.

A diet that is too salty is a risk factor for gastritis and gastric cancer. People who eat too much salt have about twice the risk of gastric cancer as others. Researchers have found that excessive intake of high-salt foods can cause direct damage to the gastric mucosa. Some foods with high salt content, such as pickled or smoked foods, often contain more nitroso compounds and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which have been proven to have a certain relationship with the occurrence of gastric cancer.
