Can stomach cancer be cured?

Among the most common tumors in my country, gastric cancer ranks second in incidence and third in mortality. The incidence of gastric cancer increases with age, often occurring in people aged 40 to 60, with male patients being about twice as likely as female patients. In recent years, the incidence of gastric cancer has generally been on a downward trend, with distal gastric cancer being the main cause. So can gastric cancer be cured? Let's find out.

Among all treatment options, surgery is the only means to cure gastric cancer. However, there is no "once and for all" solution for tumor treatment. The risk of recurrence exists at any time. Even after radical surgery, there are still 30% to 80% local or distant recurrences. This is because a single cancer cell may have spread before surgery, and tumor cells can spread to other tissues and organs of the body through the blood circulation and lymphatic system. Therefore, patient follow-up is very important, which is an important link in the early detection of metastasis and recurrence. If the patient has undergone radical surgery, it is recommended to have a follow-up examination every 3 to 6 months in the first two years. In the next three years, a follow-up examination is required every six months. After 5 years, a follow-up examination is required every year.

So far, surgery is still the main treatment for gastric cancer. The cure of gastric cancer mainly depends on early diagnosis of gastric cancer. Therefore, once there are related symptoms, you must go to the hospital for gastroscopy and other related examinations in time. Early diagnosis and early treatment will improve the cure rate of gastric cancer. At the same time, gastric cancer is a malignant wasting disease. During the active treatment, pay attention to providing adequate nutritional support.
