About the genetic inheritance of cystic renal cell carcinoma

About the inheritance of cystic kidney cancer genes: Currently, some patients with polycystic kidney disease are very worried about whether the disease will be passed on to the next generation. So is polycystic kidney disease definitely inherited? According to medical research, the disease is a hereditary disease and is divided into two categories: autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD). The following is a detailed explanation for everyone.

The characteristics of autosomal dominant inheritance are: ① Both men and women can get sick, and the chance of being affected is equal; ② If one of the parents has polycystic kidney disease, the offspring may have a 50% chance of inheriting the disease; ③ If both parents have the disease, the offspring incidence rate is 75%; ④ Children who are not sick will not carry the disease-causing gene, and their offspring will not get sick if they marry someone of the opposite sex who does not have the disease. It is rare for the disease to be caused by gene mutation without being inherited from parents. Therefore, if the father, grandfather, and great-grandmother all have polycystic kidney disease, the offspring may not necessarily be sick. However, polycystic kidney disease usually occurs around 30-50 years old, so the absence of the disease at the age of 24 does not mean that polycystic kidney disease has not been inherited. Most of the lesions exist in the fetal period, and the whole kidney is covered with cysts of varying sizes and layers, ranging from small rice grains to large ones that can reach several centimeters. Those cysts will grow with age, and the enlarged cysts will compress the kidneys, damage the kidney structure, and cause fibrosis. As the kidney damage worsens, it cannot maintain a normal life, resulting in late-stage renal failure and uremia. Therefore, early detection and early treatment are crucial to the prognosis of this disease.
