External radiotherapy (gamma knife) can only treat cells in a part of the tumor reproduction cycle with short-term irradiation. Tumor cells in other phases can still quickly restore their reproductive ability, and the cell doubling time is significantly shortened. Therefore, tumor cells can still grow rapidly in the interval between two irradiations, which directly affects the therapeutic effect of external radiotherapy.
Although the gamma rays generated by implanting radioactive particles between tumor tissues are not large, they can continuously act on tumor cells, thereby continuously killing tumor stem cells. After a sufficient dose and a sufficient half-life, all tumor cells can lose their ability to reproduce, thereby achieving a more thorough therapeutic effect.
