Four situations of recurrence in patients with colon cancer

The effect of treating colon cancer varies from person to person, but colon cancer is also a disease that is prone to recurrence. 1. Nodular recurrence refers to solitary nodular recurrence in the abdominal cavity, which is caused by insufficient resection of the mesocolon or insufficient clearance of metastatic lymph nodes in the abdominal cavity during the initial surgery.

2. Anastomotic recurrence refers to tumor recurrence in the intestinal wall at and near the anastomosis, which can grow into or outside the cavity, with or without infiltration of surrounding tissues. This is usually caused by insufficient intestinal resection at both ends of the tumor, residual cancer cells at the resection margin, or enema before surgery or squeezing during surgery, which causes cancer cells in the intestinal cavity to fall off and implant in the mucosa at or near the anastomosis.

3. Intraperitoneal recurrence refers to the recurrence of tumors on the surface of the peritoneal serosa, which is often multiple or diffuse. It is caused by the primary tumor having penetrated the serosa or cancer cells being scattered in the abdominal cavity and pelvic cavity during surgery. Diffuse dissemination of the peritoneal cavity is often accompanied by cancerous ascites.

4. Local recurrence and metastasis to liver, lung and other tissues.

Although the recurrence of colon cancer has some unchangeable factors due to different individual constitutions, it is not inevitable. This requires us to do a good job of cleaning before surgery and be careful during surgery. Of course, patients also need to supplement nutrition and adjust their body care in time.
