How to use medication after colon cancer surgery

Colon cancer is a common malignant tumor of the digestive tract that occurs in the colon, and is prone to occur at the junction of the rectum and the sigmoid colon. Recently, with the improvement of living standards, the incidence of colon cancer has also quietly increased. The gross morphology is polyp-like, ulcerative, etc. Colon cancer can develop in a circular manner along the intestinal wall, spread up and down along the longitudinal diameter of the intestine, or infiltrate deep into the intestinal wall. In addition to metastasis through lymphatic vessels, blood flow, and local invasion, it can also implant into the abdominal cavity or spread and metastasize along sutures and incision surfaces. Patients with chronic colitis, colon polyps, and obese men are susceptible to the disease. If treatment is not timely and the disease develops to the late stage, it will be difficult to cure.

The following drugs are available to prolong the survival of colon cancer:

1. Chemotherapy: If the physical condition permits, chemotherapy can be performed. Commonly used chemotherapy drugs include fluorouracil, nitrosoureas, mitomycins, cisplatin and its analog carboplatin are also effective for advanced colorectal cancer.

2. Poor physical condition, not suitable for chemotherapy, nutritional symptomatic supportive treatment, immunotherapy, commonly used immunomodulators such as BCG and Lentinan, etc.;

3. Molecular targeted drugs: if the Kras gene in tumor tissue is detected to be wild type and economic conditions permit, cetuximab can be used for tumor treatment. The main forms of drugs are monoclonal antibodies and small molecule compounds.

4. Some modern products of traditional Chinese medicine, such as ginsenoside Rh2, can inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells, induce apoptosis of cancer cells and transform into normal cells. They are considered to be the traditional Chinese medicine that has a direct effect on cancer. In addition, Rh2 can enhance the body's disease resistance, reduce the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and significantly improve the patient's immune function. The only radical cure for colorectal cancer is early surgical resection of the tumor. However, after radical resection of colorectal cancer, about 50% of cases still relapse and metastasize, mainly because the hidden metastatic lesions were not found before surgery or the lesions were not completely removed during surgery. Therefore, many colorectal cancer patients choose to take ginsenoside Rh2 to cooperate with surgical treatment. Taking ginsenoside Rh2 before surgery can shrink the tumor, reduce the scope of surgery, and improve the success rate of surgery; taking it after surgery can eliminate residual cancer cells, effectively prevent recurrence and metastasis, and at the same time accelerate wound healing, anti-inflammatory and analgesic, prevent infection, and prevent complications.
