Under what circumstances does ovarian cancer cause acute abdominal pain

Ovarian cancer is a malignant tumor of the ovary. Although the incidence rate of ovarian cancer is lower than that of cervical cancer and endometrial cancer, the mortality rate exceeds the sum of the two, ranking first among gynecological cancers and is the biggest disease that seriously threatens women's health.

Ovarian cancer usually has no symptoms in the early stages, or only mild nonspecific symptoms. The most common complaint of patients is abdominal distension and discomfort, which is easily misdiagnosed as indigestion. Generally, there is no abdominal pain or only dull pain. The following symptoms can cause acute abdominal pain

1. Pedicle torsion

About 10% of ovarian tumors are complicated by pedicle torsion, which is a common gynecological acute abdomen. When the center of gravity of a tumor is biased to one side, the tumor will grow rapidly, bleed inside the tumor, and turn necrotic and purple-black. The further torsion of the tumor pedicle can compress arterial blood flow, eventually leading to ischemic necrosis and rupture of the tumor. Sudden acute abdominal pain on one side

2. Rupture

The incidence of ovarian cancer is about 3%, and it can rupture spontaneously or under external pressure. The abdominal pain symptoms can be mild or severe, which also depends on the nature of the cyst and the amount of cystic fluid that flows into the abdominal cavity.

3. Infection

It is rare and is usually caused by adhesion of the tumor to the intestine after twisting or rupture, or by the spread of infection from adjacent organs. Symptoms include abdominal pain, fever, and a tender mass.

4. Bleeding

If the torsion cannot be restored, the veins in the tumor pedicle will be compressed first. At this time, the venous blood cannot flow back but the arteries continue to supply blood, causing the tumor to become congested, swollen, and even exudate.

5. Malignant transformation

Benign tumors turn into malignant tumors. If a malignant tumor occurs, it may grow rapidly or cause ascites.
