Can I eat walnuts when I have thyroid nodules?

Thyroid nodules are not a rare or difficult to cure disease. There are many inducing factors, such as iodine deficiency, endocrine system problems, and environmental factors can all lead to the onset of thyroid nodules. There are actually not many dietary taboos for patients with thyroid nodules. As long as the diet structure is normal, it is feasible. However, patients can still pay attention to eating more foods that can enhance their immunity. Foods rich in iodine such as walnuts can also be eaten, but be careful not to eat too much.

Multiple thyroid nodules are a type of thyroid nodules. Thyroid nodules are a very common disease, especially in middle-aged women. Iodine deficiency is one of the causes of thyroid nodules, but autoimmune dysfunction, endocrine disorders, genetic and environmental factors may also cause thyroid nodules. It is worth mentioning that a long-term high-iodine diet will also stimulate the proliferation of thyroid tissue and lead to thyroid nodules by promoting the secretion of thyroid hormones in the body. Seafood generally contains high iodine. If patients with thyroid nodules consume excessive iodine in the short term, it will induce hyperthyroidism. Since we usually consume iodized salt, it is not recommended to eat foods high in iodine for a long time.

People with thyroid disease generally need to be treated with medication or surgery. There is no need to supplement with large amounts of iodine, and a normal diet is sufficient. In terms of diet, it is advisable to eat more foods that enhance immunity, such as shiitake mushrooms, mushrooms, fungus, walnuts, coix seeds, red dates, yam and fresh fruits. Eat more foods that have the effect of eliminating lumps and swelling, including water chestnuts, rapeseed, mustard greens, kiwi fruit, etc.

Data show that the prevalence of thyroid nodules in the general population that can be detected by palpation accounts for 3% to 7% of the Chinese population; using high-definition ultrasound examination, this proportion rises to 20% to 70%, among which people over 40 years old are the high-risk group. Generally speaking, more than 90% of thyroid nodules are benign lesions, and the proportion of malignant lesions is very small. If your thyroid function is normal, you don't need to pay any attention to these nodules and just need to check them regularly.

People with thyroid nodules should eat less walnuts because walnuts are relatively high in iodine, containing about 10.4 micrograms of iodine per 100 grams. There will be no problem with normal intake.
