8 major factors that induce laryngeal cancer

Laryngeal cancer is more common in middle-aged and elderly men. Its occurrence is related to factors such as smoking, air pollution, alcoholism, chronic inflammatory stimulation, sex hormones, viral infection, precancerous lesions and local radiotherapy.

1. Smoking is a common cause of laryngeal cancer, because tobacco burning can produce tobacco tar, in which benzopyrene can cause cancer and induce laryngeal cancer. In addition, tobacco smoke can stop or slow the movement of cilia, causing mucosal edema and bleeding, causing epithelial hyperplasia and thickening, and squamous formation, which is the basis for cancer.

2. Air pollution. Long-term inhalation of harmful gases such as sulfur dioxide and industrial dust such as chromium and arsenic can easily cause laryngeal cancer.

3. Excessive drinking. Moderate drinking is good for health, but long-term heavy drinking will cause excessive accumulation of ethanol in the body. Long-term irritation of ethanol to the mucous membrane can cause it to degenerate and cause cancer, inducing laryngeal cancer.

4. The stimulation of chronic inflammation is also a cause of laryngeal cancer. For example, chronic laryngitis or respiratory tract inflammation may induce laryngeal cancer.

5. Experiments on sex hormones show that the percentage of estrogen receptor-positive cells in laryngeal cancer patients is significantly increased, so this is also a factor leading to laryngeal cancer.

6. Viral infection is closely related to the occurrence of laryngeal cancer. It is generally believed that viruses can cause cells to change their nature and divide abnormally. Viruses can attach to genes and be passed on to the next generation of cells, causing cancer and inducing laryngeal cancer.

7. Precancerous lesions, laryngeal keratosis and benign laryngeal tumors, such as laryngeal papilloma, may become cancerous if recurring, inducing laryngeal cancer.

8. Using radiation to treat neck tumors can cause cancer.
