What tests are needed for colorectal tumors in the elderly?

Colorectal cancer is a very serious tumor disease, which seriously affects the patient's life and work. However, many people do not know much about colorectal cancer. Here we will introduce to you what to check for colorectal cancer in the elderly.

What should be checked for colorectal tumors in the elderly? The main points are as follows:

1. Endoscopic examination includes proctoscopy, sigmoidoscopy and fiber colonoscopy.

2. Imaging examination: The purpose of imaging examination is not only to detect lesions in the intestinal cavity, but also to detect infiltration and metastasis. The estimation of the depth of infiltration is extremely important. Currently, commonly used imaging examination methods include X-ray barium meal enema examination, CT, MRI, and intrarectal ultrasound (IUS).

3. Radionuclide examination: Radionuclide is used for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer, which is the most important point in the examination of colorectal tumors in the elderly.

4. Cytological and histological diagnosis: The methods of exfoliative cytological examination for colorectal cancer include rectal washing, brushing under direct vision of colonoscopy, wire mesh balloon wiping and digital smear examination of lesions. If malignant cells are found, it has diagnostic significance, but it is not sufficient for the final diagnosis. The final diagnosis is still based on histopathology.

5. New ideas and new concepts: With the research on tumor molecular genetics, the development and application of in vitro gene amplification technology polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has made tumor gene diagnosis possible. Currently, the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method has been developed, which can detect single-molecule DNA or samples containing only one target DNA molecule per 100,000 cells.
