How do kidney tumors metastasize?

When the disease is serious, kidney tumors will metastasize and cause lesions in other organs. So, what is the pathway of kidney tumor metastasis?

Regarding the pathways of renal tumor metastasis, relevant experts point out that renal tumors can metastasize through three pathways: direct infiltration, lymphatic pathway, and blood circulation. The lungs and iliac bones are common sites of metastasis. The specific introduction is as follows:

Direct infiltration: Renal tumors gradually grow larger, break through the tumor capsule and spread in all directions, invading the renal pelvis inward, breaking through the renal capsule outward to invade the perirenal fat and fascia, and spreading to adjacent tissues such as the colon, adrenal glands, liver, spleen, and diaphragm.

Lymphatic pathway: According to statistics, 15% to 30% of renal tumors can metastasize via the lymphatic pathway. On the left side, it metastasizes to the renal pedicle, the preaortic and left lateral lymph nodes; on the right side, it involves the lymph nodes near the renal hilum, the pre-inferior vena cava, and the lymph nodes between the aorta and the inferior vena cava. This is one of the pathways for renal tumor metastasis.

Blood metastasis: It is an important metastatic pathway of renal tumors. Cancer cells invade veins from capillaries and intrarenal veins to renal veins, forming tumor thrombi in the veins. These thrombi can further extend into the inferior vena cava to reach the right atrium, and then to the lungs, iliac bones and other organs, causing extensive blood metastasis.

The above is an introduction to the pathways of renal tumor metastasis. Experts remind that if you want to reduce the occurrence of renal tumor metastasis, you must start treatment early.
