What are the adverse reactions to leprosy vaccination

Leprosy is a serious disease, so in order to prevent babies from being infected with this disease, many babies need to be vaccinated against leprosy when they are young. Most babies will have allergic reactions after receiving the leprosy vaccine. They will have some red spots on their skin, or feel diarrhea and fever, etc. So what are the adverse reactions after the leprosy vaccine?

1 Local reaction

Local pain and tenderness may occur, and may be accompanied by symptoms such as redness, swelling, nodules, and abscesses. Generally, no treatment is required. Just strengthen observation, pay attention to rest, and let the child drink plenty of water. If the local reaction is severe, apply local hot compress to help reduce swelling and relieve pain.

2 Fever

A small number of people may develop fever symptoms after receiving leprosy vaccine due to weak immune systems or in the incubation period of the disease. Most of them can recover within three days to a week. Only a very small number of people may experience severe fever symptoms, which may cause febrile convulsions if not treated properly.

3. Rash

Some people may experience a mild rash within 12 days after vaccination, but the rash generally lasts no more than 2 days and usually disappears on its own without treatment.

4. Digestive tract symptoms

A few people occasionally experience gastrointestinal symptoms, such as mild mumps, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, and a few people have swollen lymph nodes.

5 Extremely rare adverse reactions

A very small number of people may develop urticaria within 72 hours after vaccination. If skin allergic urticaria occurs, seek medical attention promptly and receive effective anti-allergic treatment. There are also cases of anaphylactic shock symptoms and allergic purpura occurring within 1 hour after vaccination, and timely symptomatic treatment should be given.
