How to remove urine smell

For many families with babies, one of the most troublesome problems when dealing with baby supplies is the urine smell on clothes. This is caused by the baby's bowel movements. In addition, many people who keep cats and dogs also need to deal with the urine odor regularly. There are many ways to remove urine odor. Of course, different methods are needed to clean new and old urine stains.

1. Remove new urine stains

First, use a paper towel to absorb as much urine as possible. Try to treat the area as soon as possible after your pet urinates to reduce the amount of urine that seeps into the carpet padding. If the urine is on the carpet, spray an enzyme cleaner on the area. Cover all urine areas as thoroughly as possible. Let the cleaner sit according to the instructions on the package to allow the product to slowly neutralize the odor.

Spray clean water on the urine stain, and then use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the dirty water. If you don't have a vacuum cleaner, use paper towels to absorb the dirty water. But don't spray too much water on the urine stain; large puddles can cause mold to grow under the carpet.

Sprinkle some baking soda on the urine to add extra deodorizing benefits. Allow the stain to air dry and try to ventilate the room so that the carpet dries faster and also removes odors. Vacuum up the baking soda after it dries. If the stain remains, repeat these steps as necessary.

2. Cleaning old urine stains

Turn on the black light. Remove a few pieces of paper and mark the stained areas. Turn off all lights in your home. It’s best to do this step at night so the stain is easier to see. When we see white urine stains under a black light, we mark the spot. Turn the lights back on in the house and go back to the urine stains to clean and remove the odor one by one.

Move furniture out of the way to provide easy access to stains on all walls and carpeting. We can clean urine-stained furniture outside the house using a mixture of baking soda and water. Spray the enzyme cleaner on any previously uncleaned areas. These are usually old stains that you can't find anymore.

Spray a layer of distilled white vinegar over the cleaned area. This method is most effective when your dog urinates in a place other than the house, otherwise the strong ammonia smell may cause your dog to use these places as toilet places again. If the urine stain is on a white carpet or rug, we can mix water and hydrogen peroxide (hydrogen peroxide) in a ratio of 2:1 and then spray it on the urine stain. Hydrogen peroxide can fade colored carpets. So this method can only be used on white carpets.

2. First, mix white vinegar and water in a 1:1 ratio, spray it on the area where urine was urinated with a sprayer, then cover it with clothes or sheets to cover it for about 30 minutes to 1 hour, and then expose it to the sun for a day.
