How long can you live with subacute liver failure

The liver is an important organ in the body. Its main function is to excrete the products of metabolism and toxic substances from the body, so you should eat more liver-protecting foods. When the liver shows symptoms of subacute liver failure, severe liver failure is generally difficult to treat and the survival time is very short. However, mild subacute liver failure can be alleviated through surgical treatment to alleviate liver dysfunction.

1. How long can you live with subacute liver failure?

Liver failure. The prognosis of this disease is related to the cause. If the liver failure is caused by chronic liver disease such as chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis, the prognosis is poor and life is in danger at any time. If the liver failure is caused by drugs or alcohol, liver function may return to normal after treatment such as promoting liver cell growth and preventing complications.

2. What are the causes of liver failure?

2.1. Various types of viral hepatitis: such as hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. It can also be caused by mixed or overlapping infection of two or more hepatitis viruses.

2.2. Drugs: antipyretic and analgesic drugs such as paracetamol, acetaminophen, aspirin, etc.; anti-tuberculosis drugs such as remifentanil, rifampicin, etc.; others such as halothane, methyldopa, antimony agents, arsenic agents, sulfonamides, etc.

2.3. Poisoning by poisonous substances: such as poisonous mushroom poisoning, stinky rice and flour poisoning, carbon tetrachloride poisoning, etc.

2.4. Hypoxic liver damage: such as liver congestion and hypoxia caused by heart failure or shock that lasts for a certain period of time.

3. What are the symptoms of liver failure?

3.1. Three characteristics of jaundice: Jaundice rapidly worsens in a short period of time after it appears. For example, total bilirubin>17l μmol/L; at the same time, there are other manifestations of severe liver damage, such as bleeding tendency, prolonged prothrombin time, increased ALT, etc. If there is only deeper jaundice without other serious liver function abnormalities, it indicates intrahepatic cholestasis; jaundice lasts for a long time, and the general pattern of its development and decline is three stages: deepening, persistence, and disappearance.

If jaundice persists after 2 to 3 weeks, it indicates that the condition is serious; if the condition does not improve after jaundice appears: Generally, in acute icteric hepatitis, when jaundice appears, appetite gradually improves, and nausea and vomiting are relieved. If jaundice does not improve within one week after onset. Be alert for severe hepatitis.

3.2. Continuous low-grade fever: There may be a low-grade fever at the beginning of the disease, and the body temperature drops to normal after jaundice appears. If jaundice is accompanied by persistent low fever. Suggesting hepatocellular necrosis or endotoxemia.

3.3. The general condition is extremely embarrassing: such as fatigue, lethargy, loss of appetite, and even inability to take care of oneself.

3.4. Obvious gastrointestinal symptoms: Acute liver failure is manifested by frequent nausea, vomiting, hiccups, obvious abdominal distension, disappearance of bowel sounds, and intestinal paralysis.
