Pathological hunger

Pathological hunger

I believe many people have experienced the feeling of hunger. If you don’t eat for a long time, you will feel hungry. However, there is a very special kind of hunger, which is pathological hunger. The whole process is a periodic sleepiness and bulimia syndrome. Patients with this disease are generally fat and easily hungry, and they will feel hungry when they wake up. Let’s take a closer look at the syndrome of periodic hypersomnia and bulimia.

Periodic hypersomnia and bulimia syndrome, periodic hypersomnia-pathological hunger syndrome, and hypersomnia-bulimia syndrome are rare syndromes. They are generally considered to be an abnormal syndrome caused by lesions in the prefrontal area or hypothalamus. They are common in young males and are characterized by periodic hunger attacks and hypersomnia. Patients have uncontrollable paroxysmal sleep, each lasting from several hours to several days. After waking up, they overeat, and their food intake exceeds the normal amount by several to ten times. They are easily hungry, and most patients are obese.

1. Western medicine advocates the use of methylphenidate (Ritalin), 10-40 mg per day, taken orally in two divided doses. After the attack stops, the dosage should be gradually reduced and discontinued. Some people have also reported using amphetamine, phenytoin sodium, luminal, carbamazepine, lithium carbonate, oryzanol, etc. to treat this disease, but these drugs have great side effects and poor efficacy, and cannot completely cure the disease.

2. Traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese herbal medicine are effective in treating this disease. Based on many years of experience in clinical work in traditional Chinese medicine, we summarized and refined the famous prescription "Yang's Xingpi Kaiqiao Decoction" for treating lethargy and bulimia syndrome. We added or subtracted ingredients based on the theory of traditional Chinese medicine dialectical treatment, and the clinical observation showed significant efficacy.
