Throat tic

Throat tic

Throat twitching is an obvious symptom of tics and is also a symptom that can have a relatively large impact on children. There are many causes of tics. If you want to completely treat tics, you must first find out the cause. Only in this way can you adjust the child’s mental state based on the specific cause and restore the child to a healthy state. Below, we will introduce the specific causes of tics in detail!

1. Genetic factors

Transient tic disorder may have a familial clustering, and tic disorder is more common among family members of children with the disease, so it is believed that it may be related to genetic factors.

2. Physical factors

At the beginning, twitching often occurs due to local stimulation. Such as conjunctivitis, eyelid trichiasis irritation causing blinking, rhinitis or upper respiratory tract infection causing nasal sniffing and facial muscle twitching. When the local disease factors are removed, the tic symptoms continue to exist.

3. Physical factors

Children with tics are generally restless, sensitive to people and things, neurotic, have high demands, and tend to be stubborn. It is often accompanied by some psychological symptoms, such as headache, abdominal pain, unexplained fever, constipation, asthma, enuresis, etc.

4. Emotional factors

It is often related to the family. Common factors include parents' excessively high academic expectations of their children, excessive blame, and mothers who are often neurotic and mentally unstable. Too much intervention can cause emotional disorders in children, especially emotions such as anxiety and tension. Tics are the reaction of psychological conflicts in the motor system. Family disputes, parents’ divorce, death of relatives, etc. In addition, some people believe that it is related to the history of children's restricted sports activities, such as parents' excessive concern for their children's safety or certain diseases in their early years that limit their children's activities. Mental stimulation can also be a trigger. Or the child has recently suffered an unexpected event such as illness, hospitalization, or encountered danger. Or the child watches tense TV or video programs, plays tense games such as video games, etc., and tics become a manifestation of psychological stress. This factor plays a major role in transient tic disorder.

5. Learning theory

The tics at the beginning may be due to a conditioned escape reaction, such as blinking when there is a foreign object in the eye, or learning certain physical defects or pathologies from other people. Later, due to external factors, they are reinforced and become habitual tics.

6. Drug-induced factors

Long-term use of central nervous system stimulants such as methylphenidate and antipsychotics may produce adverse reactions such as tics.
