Symptoms of blepharitis

Symptoms of blepharitis

There are many types of inflammation in the eye area, among which blepharitis has more obvious symptoms. You will often feel a burning sensation in the eyelid area, and even your eyelashes will fall off easily. In severe cases, there will be bleeding ulcers and suppuration. Therefore, blepharitis is a relatively serious inflammation and must be treated with medication in time. The treatment of blepharitis should be based on a course of treatment, and the eyes should be kept clean and hygienic and bad hygiene habits should be corrected.

1. Symptoms

1. Early symptoms: burning sensation in the eyelids, with possible itching and stinging. For scaly cases, the eyelid margins are red, and scales or scabs can be seen at the base of the eyelashes. Eyelashes fall off easily and can regenerate. For ulcerative cases, there are bleeding ulcers and pustules.

2. Late symptoms: Long-term complications include conjunctivitis, eyelash alopecia, and thick eyelid margin.

2. Causes

Blepharitis is a subacute, chronic inflammation of the eyelid skin, eyelash follicles and glands. The eyelid margin is rich in glandular tissue and fatty secretions, and is easily contaminated by dirt and bacteria, causing infection. Clinically, it is divided into three types: scaly, ulcerative, and canthal blepharitis. The scaly type is eyelid margin eczema dermatitis, which is caused by secondary infection due to excessive glandular secretion, while the ulcerative type is caused by staphylococcal infection of the eyelash follicles and eyelid margin skin. Canthal blepharitis is caused by Bacillus sp. MorAx-Axenfeld. In addition, it is also related to riboflavin deficiency and chronic systemic diseases. Blepharitis generally has a long course, and the therapeutic effect is good if the medication is used consistently. The causes of blepharitis are physical and chemical factors, refractive errors, poor hygiene habits, etc.

3. Diagnosis and Differentiation

1. The skin at the eyelid margin is flushed, with scales or crusts, erosions, pustules, etc.

2. Long-term complications include conjunctivitis, eyelash alopecia, and thick eyelid margin.

IV. Treatment Principles

1. Pathogen treatment.

2. Keep the area clean.

3. Local antibiotic treatment.

4. Symptomatic supportive treatment.

5. Principles of Medication

1. Early mild cases are mainly treated with local eye drops, eye ointments and other auxiliary medicines.

2. For those who suffer from long-term unrecoverable or recurrent illness, effective drugs can be selected based on bacterial culture and drug sensitivity test (pay attention to whether the patient has diabetes).

3. Eliminate the cause: If you have refractive errors, have your eyes tested and wear glasses.
