There are many reasons for tooth discoloration and yellowing, which can be generally divided into endogenous and exogenous reasons:

Exogenous staining is due to the presence of various bacteria on the surface of teeth, which secrete many sticky substances on the surface of teeth. Tea stains, cigarette stains in daily diet, certain minerals in drinking water and minerals in people's saliva are adsorbed on these sticky substances to form plaque and tartar, which gradually turn teeth yellow or black.

Endogenous coloration is formed during the development of teeth. For example, if tetracycline is deposited in the dentin, the teeth will turn yellow, brown or dark gray, which is called tetracycline teeth. If there is too much fluoride in the drinking water, it may also cause fluorosis, and the tooth surface will appear as white chalk or brown patches. If the dental nerve is necrotic, hemoglobin combined with bacterial decomposition products can also cause the teeth to turn black.

Taboo group

1. Dead teeth fade quickly after bleaching treatment and are not suitable for cold light whitening;

2. Whitening agents have no effect on fillings and porcelain crowns, so such patients are not suitable for cold light whitening.

3. Severe tetracycline teeth with enamel hypoplasia, fluorosis, or discolored teeth caused by other factors may cause patients to feel great discomfort and are not indications for cold light whitening;

4. People under the age of 16, pregnant women and patients with severe periodontal disease are not suitable for cold light whitening.
