The edge of the tongue is painful and has small bumps

The tongue is an important organ of the human body, because when people taste delicious food, they need to rely on the tongue to taste and distinguish. However, the tongue often suffers from some health problems, such as some unprecedented red bumps on the tongue. Or it could be due to dietary burns or other diseases causing tongue problems. But what is the reason for the pain and small bumps on the edge of the tongue?

Lingual papillitis is divided into fungiform papillitis and foliate papillitis. The tongue is composed of muscles and special epithelium and is responsible for chewing. The tongue is highly mobile and easily injured, especially the fungiform papillae and foliate papillae. The contour nipple rarely becomes inflamed, but occasionally patients may experience local discomfort or mistake it for a tumor.

Fungal papillitis

Clinical manifestations include edema and congestion of the fungiform papillae. Fungiform papillae are mainly distributed on the tip of the tongue and are very easy to be injured. Their main function is to be pain receptors, so patients will feel obvious discomfort.

Disease treatment

1. Remove local irritation, adjust and polish the sharp tooth tips with a rubber wheel.

2. For those with obvious pain, 2% procaine can be used for gargling. 3. Gargle with 0.05% chlorhexidine (chlorhexidine) and apply ulcer ointment.

Foliate papillitis

Clinical manifestations: congestion and edema of the foliate papillae.

Disease treatment

1. Eliminate local irritation such as sharpening of tooth tips to prevent excessive tongue extension.

2. Gargle with 0.05% chlorhexidine (chlorhexidine). 3. When there is inflammation in the pharynx, you can take some anti-inflammatory Chinese patent medicines, such as Isatis root, Nasturtium, etc.

Symptoms of lingual papillitis

1. Smooth tongue. This is one of the most common symptoms of lingual papillitis. Patients will have filiform papillae and fungiform papillae, which will atrophy due to different reasons. A more serious symptom will be that the tongue surface is as smooth as a mirror. If it is caused by vitamin B2 deficiency, the smooth tongue will show mild atrophy and edema of the fungiform papillae, and the tongue will appear as a "strawberry tongue" and finally a "mirror tongue". It causes lingual papillitis, which causes the tongue to become congested and red. Patients should seek treatment as soon as possible, otherwise the condition will become more serious.

2. Fungal papillitis, papillary congestion and edema, red lesions in the form of dots are the most obvious symptoms of this type of disease. The patient's pain is significantly aggravated when the inflammation occurs. The patient's tongue has extensive and severe pain. Anemia, vitamin deficiency, and local irritation can cause this type of disease.

3. Foliate papillitis. This type of disease is located at the posterior edge of the tongue on both sides and is more obvious at the root of the tongue. Because this area is in the lymphatic tissue, pharyngeal inflammation can spread here. The patient will experience local congestion, edema, and pain, and if it does not heal for a long time, ulceration will occur.

4. Contour papillitis. This disease occurs at the root of the tongue. The papillary papillae are the size of sorghum grains and are arranged horizontally. Local pain, congestion and taste disturbance are its obvious symptoms. Patients should be treated as soon as possible and take good care measures.
