What should I pay attention to after thyroid cyst surgery

Thyroid cyst is a type of thyroid disease. Some young boys and girls will suffer from this disease. After the patient undergoes thyroid cyst surgery, we must not only carefully observe the postoperative condition to prevent recurrence of the disease and wound infection, but we must also pay attention to the patient's diet after the operation. Now let us understand what patients with thyroid cysts should pay attention to in their diet after surgery.

Avoid greasy (such as rooster, goose, pork head, beef, mutton, carp, shrimp, crab, etc.), spicy (such as raw onions, ginger, raw garlic, chili peppers, etc.), and fried foods. No smoking or drinking. Eat more: kelp, seaweed and fresh vegetables and fruits. Avoid depression, anger, impatience, and sadness, and maintain a cheerful mood. People living in areas where endemic goiter is prevalent should pay attention to iodine supplementation, such as eating iodized salt and eating more seafood such as kelp and seaweed.

Postoperative patients should eat nutritious and easily digestible food. For the elderly and weak, the time for eating liquid and semi-liquid food should be appropriately extended to facilitate digestion. For strong patients, when their condition stabilizes and improves, they can be given a normal diet. The diet after gastrointestinal surgery should be liquid, semi-liquid, soft food, and normal food, in a gradual manner. Patients should not be partial to certain foods. They should not eat too much sweet food. If they can choose lean meat or fresh fish to make soup, which is fresh and slightly salty, it is nutritious and can increase appetite, thus helping the patient to recover quickly. The diet should not be refined. Postoperative patients often eat a high-protein, high-calorie diet and ignore the intake of vitamins, because the body's repair requires various nutrients, especially crude fiber, which can enhance gastrointestinal activity and maintain smooth bowel movements for bedridden patients after surgery. Therefore, a certain amount of vegetables should be included in the diet, especially green leafy vegetables.

If the diet is not adjusted after thyroid cyst surgery, it is likely to cause harm to the patient's body and may also cause inflammation of the wound. Therefore, we must make reasonable adjustments to our diet and follow the doctor's advice to avoid eating irritating foods, which will be of great help to the patient's recovery.
