How to help newborns stop drinking bottles

Newborns are often fed with breast milk or formula after birth. Although this feeding method is very beneficial to the baby's own nutrition and health, long-term feeding with a pacifier also has certain disadvantages. Because the pacifier is easy to accumulate bacteria, it is easy to affect the baby's health. Long-term pacifier feeding will make the baby lean forward subconsciously, which is easy to cause overbite. So how to stop the baby from using a bottle?

Let's first talk about the disadvantages of children drinking milk from a pacifier for a long time.

Drinking milk from a pacifier for a long time will make the baby accustomed to sticking his chin forward. Over time, the lower teeth will consciously cover the upper teeth, which is the so-called "overbite", which directly affects the proportions of the baby's delicate face. Getting rid of the pacifier is a long and gradual process!

First and foremost, the most important method is not to feed your child milk before going to bed at night. You can try telling stories, or letting your child and mom and dad make their own beds, or talking about interesting things during the day together. Anyway, you can get rid of the dependence on drinking milk from a bottle.

Next, when shopping in the supermarket, let your child choose a cup he or she likes. In the early stages, it can be a cup with a straw, but in the later stages, you should remove the straw. Children will like to drink water from the cup they choose themselves. Don’t forget to let your child choose a cup for an adult, so that the adult and child can drink water together.

In addition, during the training process, the number of times the pacifier is used during the day should be gradually reduced, from three times a day, to twice a day, then once a day, and then occasionally once or twice a week, so that the child will gradually forget the pacifier.

Also, parents should not compare their children with other children and think that their children are dumber than others. This is actually incorrect because every child's development level is different and their learning abilities are different. It is impossible for them to make the same progress, so parents should not be anxious.

Then there are some more extreme practices: verbal scolding and physical punishment are absolutely unacceptable. Some people also put spicy or irritating acidic things on the pacifier that the child does not like, which will be counterproductive and the child may become bad and lose appetite.
