How does eczema occur?

Eczema is a very common skin disease in outpatient clinics, with a prevalence rate of approximately 7.5% in China and 10.7% in the United States. The term eczema once represented all chronic skin allergies with unknown pathogenesis, but with the development of modern medicine, we found that some of them were actually caused by hidden single allergens that we had not discovered before. Then they would heal quickly by simply removing the allergens. We classified these patients as contact dermatitis. Another part was found to be a genetic constitution problem, so we classified these patients as atopic dermatitis. Therefore, with the development of medicine, eczema is actually becoming less and less common.

How to treat eczema?

Currently, most treatments for eczema are symptomatic. In terms of oral medications, antihistamines are mainly used to block allergies and relieve itching. Sometimes when a single drug is not enough to control the condition, two drugs can be used at the same time. Calcium supplements, B vitamins and vitamin C can often play an auxiliary therapeutic role.

In terms of topical medications, the choice of topical medications is slightly adjusted according to the different stages of the disease, but in the end they are mainly corticosteroid preparations, that is, hormones. When these hormones are used externally, they usually do not cause the systemic adverse reactions that may be caused by oral hormones, so the safety margin is still very large.

In terms of physical therapy, the use of specific ultraviolet rays for some chronic eczema thickening rashes can also have a certain effect.
