Is it better to do an X-ray on an empty stomach or after a meal?

X-ray examination is a frequently used examination item. Many people don't know whether it is better to do X-ray on an empty stomach or after a meal. X-ray examination is different from laboratory tests. Most blood tests require fasting. Fasting and after a meal have no effect on the results of X-ray examinations, such as chest X-ray examinations or limb bone examinations. Some special X-ray examinations require fasting, such as X-ray barium meal fluoroscopy. Let us now take a closer look at the harm that X-rays can do to the human body.

1. X-rays have a certain killing and destructive effect on biological cells. Excessive exposure to X-rays will affect physiological functions, cause chromosomal abnormalities, and lead to cancer. But moderate exposure will not affect human health. Because when medical staff conduct examinations, the doses of X-ray fluoroscopy and photography used are very small and limited to safe doses. In particular, an occasional chest X-ray, a gastrointestinal examination, a bone X-ray or angiography will not cause adverse reactions. Moreover, the X-ray dose used for filming is not completely absorbed by the human body. Most of it penetrates the human body, and only a small part is absorbed by the human body. If we have to give a specific number, it is that the amount actually absorbed by the human body is only a few ten-thousandths of the dose used, or even less than that.

2. Moreover, the radiological examination equipment used in major hospitals has long been replaced by digital radiography (CR) and direct digital imaging (DR), and the radiation dose has been greatly reduced compared to before, accounting for only 1/7 of the original amount.

3. So to be precise, a CT scan once a week will not affect the health of a normal person. When medical X-rays are used to examine and treat people, they can never affect their health.
