Does activated carbon absorb formaldehyde?

Does activated carbon absorb formaldehyde?

Many decoration materials contain formaldehyde, which is very harmful to the human body. You must wait until the formaldehyde disappears after the decoration before moving into the house, otherwise the consequences will be disastrous. After the new house is decorated, you can use some methods to clean the formaldehyde. Many people will choose activated carbon to absorb formaldehyde, but some people think that the effect of activated carbon absorbing formaldehyde is not good. Does activated carbon absorb formaldehyde? Let's take a look.

1. Does activated carbon absorb formaldehyde?

Although most activated carbons have good absorption capacity, if they rely solely on absorption to control pollution, they will reach saturation in a short time. At this time, the activated carbon not only fails to remove formaldehyde, but also becomes a source of pollution, releasing the absorbed formaldehyde. Therefore, it is recommended to throw away the old activated carbon and replace it with new charcoal after about 3 months of use, or choose a new type of activated carbon with stronger performance such as coconut fiber charcoal, which can be used for a much longer time.

Activated carbon is inexpensive and suitable for daily odor removal or treatment of mild pollution. However, it has disadvantages such as easy absorption saturation, short service life, and easy to cause secondary pollution.

2. What to use to remove formaldehyde

1. Nano active ore adsorption

Activated carbon is a relatively cheap and practical method for removing formaldehyde. It is characterized by physical adsorption, which is thorough and not prone to secondary pollution. The physical effect of active ore is deodorization and detoxification; without any chemical additives, it has no effect on the human body.

2. Ventilation method to remove formaldehyde

Through the circulation of indoor air, the content of harmful substances in the indoor air can be reduced, thereby reducing the harm of such substances to the human body. In winter, people often close doors and windows, and the air cannot circulate between indoor and outdoor spaces. Not only will the formaldehyde content in the indoor air increase, but radon gas will also continue to accumulate and even reach a very high concentration.

This method of removing formaldehyde is to expel formaldehyde and other more harmful gases outdoors through air circulation. Although this method of removing formaldehyde is simple and easy to operate, it uses ventilation, which usually takes three years or more to completely remove the formaldehyde, which is not feasible for ordinary families.

3. Black tea soaked in water

Soak 300 grams of black tea in two basins of water, put it into the room, and open the windows for ventilation. Within 48 hours, the indoor formaldehyde content will drop by more than 90%, and the irritating smell will be basically eliminated.

4. Plant deodorization method

Plant decontamination can be chosen for medium and low pollution: In general, in environments where indoor environmental pollution is light or moderate, and pollution values are below 3 times the national standard, plant purification can achieve relatively good results. Choose and place plants according to the different functions and size of the room.

Generally speaking, it is more appropriate to place two pots of plants 1.5 meters high in a room of about 10 square meters. (Recommended indoor pollution control method: ventilation + live minerals + formaldehyde-removing plants, suitable for medium and low pollution) Select and place plants according to the different functions and size of the room.

5. Formaldehyde scavenger or formaldehyde dissolving enzyme

Formaldehyde cleaning agents remove formaldehyde by chemical methods to reduce the toxicity of formaldehyde or convert it into non-toxic substances; while formaldehyde dissolving enzymes remove formaldehyde by infiltrating the enzyme into the board material to remove harmful gases, but it still cannot achieve complete removal.
