The throat is an important organ in the human body. It is a place we must pass through when eating. If the nose is blocked, the throat can assist the nose in breathing. It can be seen that the throat plays an important role in the human body. This indispensable organ of the human body sometimes has some minor problems. For example, even if you don’t eat chili peppers, you may feel a hot throat. What’s going on? Why does the throat feel hot? The hot feeling in the throat may be caused by laryngitis, and there are some causes of laryngitis. 1. The result of repeated attacks or prolonged acute laryngitis. 2. Excessive use of voice and improper vocalization. Commonly seen in teachers, actors, singers, etc. 3. Inhalation of harmful gases such as industrial gases, smoking, and chemical dust can easily cause thickening of the vocal cords. 4. Infections of the nose, sinuses, and pharynx are also sources of chronic irritation of the throat. 5. Long-term contact between the purulent secretions of lower respiratory tract infection and the throat can easily lead to chronic laryngitis. 6. Certain systemic diseases (such as heart and kidney diseases, diabetes, rheumatism, etc.) cause vasomotor dysfunction and long-term congestion in the throat, which may lead to chronic laryngitis. Clinical manifestations 1. Hoarseness is the main symptom. The voice becomes deep and rough. The symptoms are more severe in the morning and gradually improve with increased activity and coughing up of throat secretions. The hoarseness will be relieved after keeping silent, but talking more will make the symptoms worse. It is intermittent and will become persistent over time. 2. The throat secretions increase, and there is often a feeling of phlegm sticking to the throat. Whenever you speak, you have to cough to clear the thick phlegm. 3. There is often discomfort in the throat, such as dryness, stinging, burning sensation, foreign body sensation, etc. 4. Atrophic laryngitis may cause spasmodic cough. Crusting is the cause of the spasmodic cough, so scabs or sticky secretions are often discharged with coughing, sometimes with a small amount of blood. examine Indirect laryngoscopy can show the following three types of changes depending on the severity of the lesion: 1. Chronic simple laryngitis The laryngeal mucosa is diffusely congested, red and swollen, the vocal cords lose their original pearly white color, become pink, and the edges become blunt. Thick mucus can be seen on the mucosal surface, often forming mucus threads between the glottis. 2. Chronic hypertrophic laryngitis The laryngeal mucosa is thickened, especially in the interarytenoid region. The vocal cords are also thickened and cannot be closed close to the midline. The ventricular cords are often thickened and cover part of the vocal cords. The aryepiglottic folds may also be thickened. 3. Chronic atrophic laryngitis The laryngeal mucosa is dry, thin and shiny. There are often yellow-green or dark brown dry scabs in the interarytenoid area and under the glottis. If the scabs are coughed out, a small amount of bleeding can be seen on the surface of the mucosa. The vocal cords become thinner and their tension decreases. |
