What to do if you can't wake up

What to do if you can't wake up

Many people may encounter this situation: they are conscious and want to get up, but they just can’t. It was no use struggling. My head felt dizzy and I seemed to be falling into a deep sleep. What is the cause of this symptom? What should we do if we can’t wake up from sleep? The following article will introduce to you the reasons and solutions for not being able to wake up from sleep, I hope it can help you.

Reasons for not being able to wake up from sleep

According to folk superstition, this is called "being possessed by a ghost" or "a nightmare". It refers to the feeling when people are sleeping, as if there is a thousand-pound weight pressing on the body, making it difficult to breathe, and they are neither awake nor asleep. They want to shout but cannot, and they want to move but cannot. People feel puzzled and terrified, as if there is a transparent object pressing on their body, and combined with the dream, it is given a "figurative" name - the feeling of being pressed down by a ghost.

Like dreams, nightmares are also a physiological phenomenon. When a person suddenly wakes up from a dream, some of the nerve centers in the brain have woken up, but the nerve centers that control the muscles have not yet fully woken up. Therefore, although he feels uncomfortable, he cannot move. At this time, if someone wakes him up or pushes him, the nightmare will disappear immediately.

This phenomenon is very common. For example, it is impossible for us to clench our fists completely when we just wake up; many people need to take a few minutes to recover after waking up. This is because the central nervous system does not work synchronously.

Sleeping on your back, covering yourself with a thick blanket or placing your hands on your chest, being overly nervous during the day, and eating too much at dinner are all triggers of nightmares. If the listeners are careful, they will find that those who have experienced "ghost paralysis" were all lying on their backs. If they sleep on their sides and avoid the above-mentioned factors, nightmares will not occur.

This symptom is also called sleep paralysis, which often occurs when people just fall asleep or are about to wake up. At this time, people just enter a deep sleep and begin to enter the dream sleep cycle. All parts of the body are in a state of extremely low tension, and the human consciousness may have such a feeling due to excessive excitement.

The cause of sleep paralysis is not very clear at present, but at present, excessive physical fatigue, severe lack of sleep, or genetic tendencies are also the main causes of sleep paralysis.

It usually occurs more easily when one is under great stress, excessive fatigue, irregular work and rest schedule, insomnia, or anxiety. Try not to make yourself too tired, don't stay up late, and maintain a normal schedule, which will usually reduce the chance of occurrence. Most people will feel panic when this happens. Fortunately, this situation will usually disappear slowly within a few minutes or suddenly resume limb movements. However, the panic feeling at the time of the attack will still make people feel scared after waking up, and they will feel as if their chest is being pressed by some unknown object.

Don't be too nervous if you encounter this situation, as this symptom is very common. 40%-50% of normal people have experienced such symptoms once or twice, and only 3%-6% will experience such symptoms repeatedly. This condition can occur in people of any age, but rarely does it happen repeatedly.

Time of occurrence

It usually happens after you fall asleep and then when you are half asleep.

Workaround

1. It is caused by sleeping on your back. The chance of occurrence is lower if you sleep on your side at night.

2. It is due to mental stress. The mind is relaxed at ordinary times but not at night.

3. Get enough rest

Precautions to avoid sleep paralysis

1. Don’t overwork yourself and make sure you get enough rest; 2. Take a hot bath before going to bed. If a hot bath is not convenient, soak your feet in hot water! 3. Try not to put your hands on your chest when sleeping, and don’t let your legs press against each other!

4. "Control" your hands and feet when sleeping. You can try to develop a good habit before going to bed! So, there is no need to be afraid of sleep paralysis.
