What is the reason why the forehead thermometer is inaccurate

Sometimes babies have no appetite for food or tea, and have no appetite for anything. When you touch their heads, they feel very hot. This may be a fever. This is a more traditional examination method, but it is often inaccurate and can only give a rough idea of the situation. In addition to direct veneer testing, there is also a method of measuring with a thermometer, but in life they are also divided into mercury and electronic thermometers, but sometimes there will be inaccuracies, so why is this?

Considering the hazards of mercury in mercury thermometers, many countries have taken ban measures on them. As early as 1992, Sweden banned the sale of all medical devices containing mercury. Mercury pollution has attracted global attention. After several rounds of intergovernmental negotiations, a legally binding international convention on mercury pollution control is likely to be introduced in June 2013.

First of all, we need to buy a mercury thermometer from a regular pharmacy. When purchasing, you can consult a doctor about the correct way to use the mercury thermometer.

We usually use three places to measure body temperature, namely the mouth, armpits and anus.

The more commonly used method is to measure the armpit. We first shake the mercury thermometer to below 35℃, then place the mercury end of the thermometer at the top of the armpit and clamp it. Make sure the thermometer is in close contact with your skin and remove it after about 5 minutes. After reading the degree, wipe it clean with tissue paper for next use.

The armpits are prone to sweating, so be sure to wipe off the sweat under the armpits before measuring. When measuring body temperature under the armpit, it is important to keep the time between 5-6 minutes.

When measuring oral temperature, first shake the mercury thermometer to below 35°C, then place the thermometer under the tongue and press it down with a little force. Before doing this, be sure to disinfect and clean the surface of the thermometer before putting it in your mouth. The time is 3 minutes. Remember not to talk during the test.

When measuring oral cavity, be careful not to bite the thermometer too hard, as there is a risk of poisoning if it breaks. It is best for unconscious patients and children

After measuring the oral temperature, wipe it clean with tissue paper, then wipe the entire mercury thermometer with an alcohol cotton ball and put it back in place for next use.

When in a healthy state, the human body's temperature is generally relatively constant, maintaining around 37°C (roughly 36.2°C to 37.3°C), and will not change due to changes in the external ambient temperature. For most normal people, the oral body temperature ranges from 36.7℃ to 37.7℃, the axillary temperature ranges from 36.0℃ to 37.4℃, and the rectal temperature ranges from 36.9℃ to 37.9℃.

The method to measure normal body temperature is to measure it once around 8 to 9 in the morning, around 15:00 in the afternoon, and around 20:00 in the evening. Measure it for several days in a row and take the most stable value as the normal body temperature.

The body temperature of a normal person fluctuates slightly within 24 hours, generally not exceeding 1°C. Under physiological conditions, it is slightly lower in the morning and slightly higher in the afternoon or after exercise and eating. The body temperature of the elderly is slightly lower, and that of women is slightly higher before menstruation or during pregnancy.

Generally, women who are preparing for pregnancy will measure their body temperature every day to observe their basal body temperature.

The anal measurement method is generally used for comatose patients or children. The patient lies in a supine position, and the head of the anal gauge is lubricated with oil and slowly inserted into the anus until it reaches 1/2 of the gauge. The reading is taken after 3 minutes.

When reading a mercury thermometer, your line of sight should be level with the upper surface of the liquid column in the mercury thermometer. Hold the tail of the mercury thermometer with one hand, that is, the end away from the mercury column, keep your eyes and the thermometer at the same level, then slowly turn the thermometer, and when you see the thick mercury column (the silver line in the middle) from the front, you can see that the line is in the middle of the count, and you can read the temperature at this time.
